Volunteers Can Help Library Get REAL About Literacy PROJECT REAL
Are you looking for a great volunteer opportunity?

Get REAL--Project REAL, that is.

Project REAL (for REad and Learn) is a two-year pilot project that builds on existing partnerships between the Library and area organizations, day care centers, churches, and neighborhood residents to create a literacy training program for adult and teen volunteers. The volunteers then work with parents, caregivers, and teachers to help youngsters 3-8 years old improve their reading skills.

The program, created with a U.S. Department of Education Library Research and Demonstration Grant of nearly $200,000, is looking for volunteers to assist with outreach storytelling and other monthly activities that will take place during daytime hours. Volunteers may choose to help at any of the three Project REAL base locations--Central Library or the Barr and Divoll Branches. Training will be provided.

If you’d like to help others be better readers, call the Library’s Volunteer Office at 539-0345 today.
